Oil on canvas by the Edam painter Jan Kelderman (Edam 1914 - Amsterdam 1990) concerning a representation of a polder landscape with a farm along the lake. Oil on canvas with dimensions of 50x40 cm in a frame of 60x50 cm, signed lower right.

The works of Jan Kelderman have become very popular with collectors again in recent years, and rightly so!

Jan Kelderman (Edam 1914 - Amsterdam 1990) was both a painter and a merchant. He lived with his family for a long time in Amsterdam East, where he mainly produced Amsterdam cityscapes and seascapes in a small studio. The Kelderman family was not rich, but could live reasonably well from the proceeds of his paintings.
In his younger years Kelderman bought and sold second-hand items and curiosities at markets, but he soon specialized in paintings. Kelderman had a special talent for painting, which he developed into a very acceptable, impressionistic style.

From 1948 onwards he sold his paintings, at small fairs and markets, but also in the pub where he could be found regularly. He liked a drink. He also held exhibitions in various hotels and even travelled to Sweden, where he exhibited several times.
Jan was a cheerful, sociable person, with an optimistic view of life and always busy with his paintings.
These oil paintings usually depicted cityscapes or flower still lifes, occasionally interspersed with fishing boats at sea, a forest path or a winter. And also a lot of Paris. Most of the scenes were painted exactly many times. The Old Fish House on the Brouwersgracht, the sailing fishing boats at sea, and the Place Clignacourt were repeated many times.
His total work is exceptionally large and is estimated at over 10,000 pieces.
