Jan Hendriks is op 12 juni 1910 geboren in Gieten. Hier brengt hij ook zijn jeugd door. Als kind gaat hij naar de Gieterschool. Daar viel zijn tekentalent al op. Toen hij vertelde later kunstschilder te willen worden keek de schoolmeester toch bedenkelijk. Mooi kunnen tekenen is prachtig, maar om daar nu je beroep van te maken…. Na de lagere school is Jan Hendriks het technisch onderwijs gaan volgen in Assen om vervolgens timmerman te worden.In 1932 verhuist hij naar Hilversum waar hij in politiedienst treedt. De kunst is hem echter blijven trekken. Hij blijft schilderen en tekenen. In 1955 richt hij de 'Hilversumse Schilderkring' op waar hij ruim 25 jaar voorzitter van is. Hoewel Jan Hendriks in Hilversum woonde behield hij zijn binding met Gieten. Vooral in de jaren dertig, veertig en vijftig maakt hij schetsen en aquarellen van karakteristieken van het leven op het platteland. Op 30 augustus 2000 is Jan Hendriks op 90 jarige leeftijd overleden.
