What a find, this beautifully preserved watercolor/drawing by Jan Dijker (1913-1993)!

This work (genre and use of color) fits perfectly with the era and the special oeuvre of Jan Dijker, who became well known for his stained glass windows in numerous churches and buildings, especially in the Catholic south of the Netherlands.
The work is -especially considering its age- in (very) good condition. passe-partout and frame show some minor flaws. There is some dust/dirt behind the glass. This work deserves to be reframed. In this condition comes from (framed by) Kunsthandel Borzo from Den Bosch.

About the artist:
Jan Dijker is best known for his monumental work. He made glass art (windows of stained glass and glass-in-concrete), tapestries, mosaics, murals and sgraffiti. He also combined different techniques in a work of art and experimented with new materials. In that context, he is known as the person who first produced glass-in-epoxy (the Brandend Braambos from 1958).
Jan Dijker himself studied from 1936 to 1941 at the State Academy of Art in Amsterdam. Initially he studied at the Painting Department with Willem van den Berg (1886-1970), but after a year he transferred to the Monumental Art department of Heinrich Campendonk (1889-1957). Jan Bronner (1881-1972) was his sculpture teacher.
His art has been exhibited frequently and has been awarded various prizes.
In addition to his work as an artist, from 1952 to 1979 he was a teacher at the Katholieke Leerspreis Tilburg (later the Academy for Visual Education). Jan Dijker was very active in board positions, committees and juries.
