Jan Cobbaert (Heverlee, 24 June 1909 – 3 October 1995) was a Belgian artist. Several disciplines were familiar to him. In addition to painting, he also devoted himself to drawing, various forms of graphics, ceramics, ironwork, woodcut, glass art and goldsmithery. Jan Cobbaert's oeuvre is mainly determined by two components. Firstly, there is his increasingly in-depth craftsmanship. Secondly, emotionally and psychologically moving life events have determined his oeuvre. The death of his son plays an important role in this. He plunges into his child's dream world. He wants to maintain intimate contact with his son through this dream world. This world of the child, dreams and impressions determine his paintings.
