Traded by Kunsthandel Geerling (The Hague) & Het Verpaleis Zeist Jan Boon (Nieuwer-Amstel, December 2, 1882 - The Hague, April 7, 1975) was a Dutch artist. From 1894 to 1899 he was a student of Philippe Zilcken, after he saw him drawing on the street. In 1899 he was a student of Jacob Maris for a short time. After Maris died immediately in 1899, he came to the studio of Cornelis Koppenol. From 1898 to 1903 he also attended the Academy in The Hague. Much of Boon's work is in the depots of the Kunstmuseum The Hague, to which the painter's work has been bequeathed. According to a report in NRC Handelsblad upon his death, 'a complete collection of his graphic work' is even in this museum. In the Netherlands, works by Boon are also in the collections of the Centraal Museum in Utrecht, the Museum Arnhem, in Museum MORE in Gorssel and the Kröller-Müller Museum. According to a newspaper report from 1958, Boon's work was also in the Print Room of the Rijksmuseum Amsterdam, in Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, the Kupferstichkabinett Berlin and in the Kupferstichkabinett in Dresden. The work is generally not part of the permanent display in these museums. However, some professor portraits are on permanent display in the Utrecht Academy Building.
