Beautiful and colorful landscape by Herman van Tongeren, from his early years. A nice combination of a coarse brush with the plants in the foreground, and the soft color gradient in the fields and mountains.

Van Tongeren started with figurative work and over the years he has increasingly painted abstract-expressionist. Initially, his works are inspired by nature, later he creates colorful geometric shapes, followed by work from his black-and-white period with strict shapes such as lines, rectangles and diamonds. After working with 3D compositions in wood and metal, photography and drawings, he now mainly makes abstract-expressionist work. Van Tongeren lives and works in Heemstede.

Studied at the Julian Paris Academy, Royal Academy of Art in The Hague and the State Training Institute for Drawing Teachers in Amsterdam. He was a pupil of Henry Boot.
