Hendrik Werkman produced prints as an act of resistance against the German occupier during World War II. The best known of these are the Chassidic legends. They were part of a series of illegally printed publications, which were intended as spiritual resistance against the occupier. In April 1945, Werkman was shot without trial. This is a later edition, very beautiful in color.
