Biography:
HJ Scheeres was already apprenticed at the age of 11 to the Hague genre painter Huib van Hove, who had become famous for his interiors inspired by Pieter de Hoogh. Scheeres then built on what he had learned and specialized in interiors and genre pieces, often with the effect of incident sunlight. Figures in a 17th-century setting and gunsmiths in their 17th- or 18th-century workshop are also often the subject of his paintings.
