Beautiful work by Heinrich Hermanns (1862-1942). You see the port of Leer (Germany) and look out over the town hall and the old weigh house.
Work is in very good condition, frame has some signs of use but not disturbing.

Life and work
Hermanns studied at the Düsseldorf Art Academy, under Eugen Dücker. In 1889, together with Eugen Kampf and Helmuth Liesegang, he was one of the founders of the "Lukas Club", later part of the "Freie Vereinigung Düsseldorfer Künstler", with artists who were inspired by the Hague School and the Barbizon School. Initially, he mainly painted landscapes and beach scenes in North-West Germany and the Netherlands. Later, he mainly painted city scenes, in particular market and quay scenes, in a style that was somewhere between Impressionism and Romanticism, with a lot of attention to atmosphere and lighting. Hermanns was very fond of travelling.[1] Especially in the period between 1887 (then still as a pupil of Dücker) and 1914, he spent a lot of time in the Netherlands, especially in Amsterdam and Dordrecht. He also worked in Katwijk aan Zee. Later in life, he specialised more in architectural painting.
Hermanns died in 1942 at the age of 80. Much of his work is in private collections, but the Pushkin Museum in Moscow, for example, also has a View of Amsterdam by him in its collection.
