  • Henry Philippe (Hans) Citroen (born 14 March 1947 in The Hague) is a Dutch visual artist, working as a sculptor, photographer, painter,[1] and writer. He is best known for his contribution to Kunst en Vaarwerk, and for his publication of several works on Auschwitz

Hans Citroen was born and raised in The Hague, where he studied art at the Vrije Academie. He then attended Ateliers '63 in Haarlem from 1970 to 1972.
After his academy years, he started the legendary Museum de Keikdoos in Rotterdam Central Station with Bob van Persie in 1974, which they managed for two years.[2] This became known as the smallest museum in the Netherlands with the largest number of visitors. Three weeks after its launch, they welcomed their millionth visitor. In 1978, Citroen, Cor Kraat and Hans Rothmeier took the initiative to establish the Galerie Black Cat. In 1980, he collaborated on - and was one of the main characters in - "Groeten uit Rotterdam", a triptych about cultural life in Rotterdam that was broadcast by the VPRO. From 1979 to the early 1990s, he worked with Cor Kraat and Willem van Drunen in Kunst en Vaarwerk. In 1987, he initiated the Vrije Volk Grafiekcollectie. This involved works of art printed in the newspaper that could later be signed in the Boymans van Beuningen Museum.
