Van Rooy lived his entire life in the city of Utrecht. His oeuvre consists of more than 300 prints. He worked almost exclusively in black and white. Van Rooy worked figuratively, but often achieved an almost abstract result. He often combined different techniques on one plate. Among other things, he made a large series of silent, poetic images of simple subjects: a ball of string, a box, a shell, a few feathers. In recent years, his works became more narrative and, for example, there was also room for old children's toys. In the sixties and seventies Van Rooy was part of the Graphic Society De Luis. In the nineties there was a ceramic collaboration with the Utrecht artists Gert_de_Rijk, Anco van der Haar, Henk van der Haar in Z4.
