Gerard Hordijk - study of the (naked) woman

A well-known unknown?, was the title of the memorial exhibition of the painter, draftsman, graphic artist, monumental artist and decorator, Gerard Hordijk in 1959 in Museum Fodor. The title indicated the surprise of the relatives, who after his death found numerous sketches, drawings and watercolours in his studio, which indeed showed Hordijk to be an unknown. With this free work, including horse sketches, Fragonard-like female figures and compositions, Hordijk answered the critics, who accused him of superficiality. At the same time, he followed the drawing course at the academy of The Hague. Hordijk lived and worked a lot in Paris and was French-oriented in his work. This drawing comes from the American estate of the artist. Stamped on the back.
