Ger Stadman - Ets/Aquatint, Tas

Ger Stadman, born in 1937 in Groningen, followed an evening drawing course at the Minerva Academy in Groningen. He studied (also in evening classes) at the Academy for Visual Arts in Amersfoort, the teacher training course in drawing and crafts Nht/MO A/MO B. Ger Stadman worked for many years as a drawing and crafts teacher in secondary education. Ger Stadman has two sources of inspiration from which he works: Women in ironic situations. These paintings are usually painted frontally and therefore acquire an alienating atmosphere. The irony is reinforced by the titles of the work and by the source of inspiration of French shutters, doors and windows in detail, in the colours of the south tempered by the patina of time. The paintings are square. Format: 60 x 60 and 50 x 50 centimetres. The square is a perfect shape. The square places strict demands on the composition of the subject and also indicates the limitation. It is precisely this limitation that also gives the power.
