Information about the artist: Frédéric Antoine Marie (Frits) Grips (Schaarbeek, Belgium, 8 December 1869 – Vught, 3 January 1961) was a Dutch painter and draftsman. Frits Grips was a son of the painter Carel Jozeph Grips (1825-1920) and Hermina Maria Johanna Jacoba Gerdessen and an older brother of Ernest Grips. He married Hendrika Maria Font Freide (1875-1936). From this marriage the artists Charles, Wies and Pieter Grips were born. Frits Grips moved with his parents from Belgium to Vught (North Brabant) in 1881. He learned the painting trade from his father. Initially, like his father, he made still lifes and interiors, later he became known as a portrait painter. He was a drawing teacher at the Drawing School in Vught for over 25 years. Frits Grips received the honorary cross Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice.
