Lived and worked in Deventer until 1878. Until 1884 in Amsterdam.
He was a student at the Rijksacademie in Amsterdam, under the direction of August Allebé.
Painted landscapes, cityscapes, figure pieces and still lifes in the style of the Hague School.
Much of his atmospheric work has been stripped of its name over the years and provided with famous Hague Schoolers.
He taught at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rotterdam, including HA Ravenswaaij and Floris Arntzenius.
His work is in the Boymans van Beuningen Museum and the Zeeuws Museum Middelburg.
He was a member of Arti et Amicitiae.
The work has craquelure and a restoration spot.
