Frederik Kasenda is een van de meest gewaardeerde schilders van de Nieuw Indië stijl. Hij werd geboren in 1900 in Indonesië, Magelang in Midden Java. Frederik Kasenda is bekend van zijn sfeervolle en verstilde Javaanse landschappen met sawah’s, waterpartijen en berggezichten. Dit schilderij van een sawahlandschap in vroege ochtendatmosfeer met vulkaan is een treffend voorbeeld van het vakmanschap van Kasenda. Frederik Kasenda overleed relatief jong op 50 jarige leeftijd.
