Fred Sieger was born in 1902 in Amsterdam and died in 1999 at the age of 97 in Zevenaar.
In 1941 he had his first solo exhibition at the art dealership Van Lier in Amsterdam and since then he has had many solo exhibitions, including in the Museum of Modern Art Arnhem, Museum van Bommel van Dam in Venlo, Museum Commanderie van St. Jan in Nijmegen, Museum Jan van der Togt in Amstelveen and the Museum Henriëtte Polak in Zutphen. He also exhibited frequently in Denmark, including at Galerie Moderne in Silkeborg and the Museum Hölstebrö, probably due to his affinity with the Danish artist Asger Jorn.
In 1948 he was sent by the government to the XXIVth Biennale in Venice. He also taught at the art academy in Arnhem, where his students included Klaas Gubbels and Mark Brusse.
Fred Sieger developed over the course of his career from an artist who painted still lifes and portraits with the utmost precision to one of the most important representatives of abstract expressionism.
The drawing Couple is from the last period of his life. When purchasing this drawing you will receive the book 'Fred Sieger, recent drawings' published by Zevenaar 1995, hand-signed.
