- Franciscus Lodewijk Ruwel was born on August 19, 1912 in Amsterdam. He died on June 30, 1987 in De Bilt. Frans Ruwel painted landscapes and cityscapes in his own impressionistic style. Ruwel was a student of Henk Bellaart.
After a technical education, Ruwel trained as an art teacher at the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. Subsequently, he received lessons from Henk Bellaard at the Artibus academy. Together they made many outdoor studies and painted still lifes in the studio. This resulted in a close friendship with Henk Bellaard for many years. After a career as an art teacher, Frans Ruwel took early retirement as a result of an accident. From that moment on he devoted himself completely to drawing and painting. He found his subjects both at home and abroad.
In 1977 the municipality of Woerden organized an exhibition of the work of Frans Ruwel in the Gemeentemuseum, together with that of AH van der Woude and K. Kranenburg.
