Fon Klement - exclusive (H.C. 2 copies) board cut Rouge sur fond noir - beautifully framed - Sold

• By the self-taught graphic artist Klement (1930-2000) in 1988 as an HC copy for a self-printed board cut "rouge sur fond noir". Signed in pencil, dated and provided with his (index) fingerprints in red ink. Image size 50x50cm - including frame the dimensions are 70x70cm. Bought by the previous owner at Art Center Hoorn for €1150.

Fon Klement (Amsterdam, 1930 - 2000)
Fon Klement was a self-taught artist. After a short period in which he gained fame as a figurative painter and wood carver, the first multi-colour graphic sheets were created in 1960 in his typical technique 'the letterpress board cut'. Recognizable formal elements gradually made way for more abstract motifs in a sober color range. For Fon Klement, the later (re)discovery of the watercolor technique came just in time. Artistically speaking, he found himself at a crossroads. The need to change course became increasingly stronger. Fon Klement went on a quest and traveled through Provence for more than ten weeks. In his improvised studio in Lorgues, southern France, they were in abundance: flowers. Poppies, irises, roses, larkspur and hibiscus tempted the artist to continue on the path he had already taken: painting and watercoloring flower still lifes. Since 1961, Fon Klement has been a member of Xylon, the international association of woodcarvers, which regularly graph shows across Europe. The exhibition 'Prints today in the USA' with an overview of graphics by Dutch artists, including Fon Klement, has traveled through the United States for years. During the graphics biennial 'Grafiek Nu' in Laren (autumn 1990), and later at the first international graphics biennial in Maastricht (summer 1993), Fon Klement was awarded the Audience Award.
