Erwin de Vries (1929 – 2018)
Gedreven door vrouwelijk schoon en erotiek creëerde hij flamboyante en kleurrijke composities, die zijn multiculturele achtergrond weerspiegelde. Met krachtige penseelstreken legde hij vrouwelijke rondingen, sensualiteit en levensenergie pakkend vast. Hij werkte realistisch en abstract.
Een belangrijke mijlpaal in zijn carrière, was het vervaardigen van het Slavernij monument, geplaatst in het Oosterpark in Amsterdam, door Koningin Beatrix op 1 juli 2002 onthuld.
