● Dominic Rouse (b. 1959) is a multi-disciplined English artist who began his career as a photojournalist at sixteen years of age.
● In early 1980, aged twenty, he set out on a photographic journey to Africa. This Masai warrior was photographed in the Tanzanian bush in February of that year.
● The young photographer lent the warrior his sunglasses to wear for the photograph but when he had finished photographing him, the model wasn't particularly happy about having to return them to their rightful owner. As the young African was armed with a sharp spear and himself with nothing but a camera, Rouse chose discretion as the better part of valour and returned to his hotel minus his sunglasses but, mercifully, without any unwanted piercings.
