- Dirk Harting (name variant Dirk Herman Michael Harting) was born on March 8, 1884 in Salatiga (Indonesia) and died on August 28, 1970 in Haarlem.
Harting received an artistic education at the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten in Amsterdam and was a pupil of Pieter Dupont and Willem Witsen in particular. Later in life he became a teacher himself of Ruurd van den Berg, Barend Ferwerda, Madaleine Gans, Wim Gerritsma, David van Hessen, Gerard Lutz, Suze Slager-Velsen, Dick Wentzel and Willem Abraham Wijn.
As an artist, however, he was never 'far from home'. Dirk mainly worked in the area around Utrecht, Amsterdam, Heemstede (North Holland) and Haarlem.
Harting was a skilled graphic artist as well as a painter, draftsman, etcher, lithographer, engraver and graphic designer. He was also known as a collector of prints.
The accents in his work were mainly on landscapes, portraits, cityscapes, flower still lifes and figure representations.
During his lifetime he received the Willink van Collen Prize in 1913.
Dirk Harting was a member of Arti et Amicitiae in Amsterdam, of Pulchri Studio in The Hague and of the Association for the Promotion of Graphic Arts 'De Grafische'.
