Cees Landsaat was born in Amsterdam in 1948 and died in 2007. He was a sculptor and painter. He was a student at the Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam, then followed courses in London at the Morsley College and the Camden Art Centre. Cees Landsaat lived and worked in Amsterdam. In the first years of his artistic career, he became best known for his colour etchings, although he also made lithographs and paintings. Cees Landsaat made his debut at Galerie Liernur in The Hague, after which many exhibitions followed. The series of colour etchings are notable for their playfulness and remarkable use of colour, sometimes excessive, then again limited and supportive. The imagination of this artist is unbridled and sometimes the technical ability in the graphic work seems limitless. In a later period, he distanced himself more from the graphic work and Cees Landsaat limited himself to painting. Cees Landsaat designed many set and costumes for the theatre work of his partner Ad de Bont.
