Bernard Koldeweij
was born in 1859 in Dordrecht. He was a student at the Antwerp Drawing Academy and received advice from Theophile de Bock. He lived and worked not only in Antwerp, but also in his birthplace Dordrecht. Like many artists in the 19th century, Koldewey made a study trip to Italy. He also visited Corsica. Koldeweij mainly painted, watercoloured and drew still lifes, landscapes, harbour and river views. A few figure pieces by him are also known. Koldeweij belongs to the Dordrecht Impressionists.
