He studied at the Academy of Mechelen and then at the Academy of Antwerp. He preferred floral still lifes, genre scenes, church interiors, portraits, cityscapes and still lifes. He painted poetic views of old Mechelen: typical corners in the beguinage, interiors there, old buildings and houses.
