De sensatie van de oerdrift gecombineerd met esthetisch genot en emotionele complexiteit creëren een unieke ervaring die moeilijk te evenaren is. Het belang van erotische kunst is door de geschiedenis heen ondermijnd, maar het heeft dezelfde waarde als elk ander kunstgenre. Het doet wat kunst zou moeten doen: het wekt het verlangen van de kijker op.
AJ Barnes (VS, 1962) behaalde in 1989 een Master of Arts Degree aan de Ohio University, nadat hij in 1985 afstudeerde aan de Wayne State University. Hij is een voormalig redactioneel fotograaf die veel van zijn persoonlijke werk produceerde op Polaroid instant film. Na de ondergang van de Polaroid Corporation in 2004 begon hij te werken met het natte collodionproces, een oude glasplaattechniek die in 1851 werd uitgevonden.
