Educated at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rotterdam and Atelier '63 in Haarlem. In 1969 Adriaan changed his name to Adine Engelman. Besides being a painter Engelman was also a sculptor of mainly abstract visual art. Engelman's work from the 60s and 70s shows similarities with the work of Bram Bogart and Rob van Koningsbruggen.
