Ad Blok van der Velden (1913-1980)
'Terschelling dune landscape'
watercolor
47 x 27 cm
signed, dated '55 and titled lower left
AD Blok van der Velden was born in Dordrecht in 1913 and trained as a draughtsman there. Before the war he regularly came to Texel to capture the landscape and during the war years he went to live there. His style in the early years was most similar to that of the Hague School, but that changed in 1953 - when he had been in the South of France. He then switched to a light palette, sometimes with stylistic features of Vincent van Gogh. This work in light colours is the most popular.
The painter frequently captures the Texel landscape (and that of other Wadden Islands) in many ways. The Slufter and the Muy but also Texel farms, several times combined with flowers. All this drawing, watercoloring and painting. After the land consolidation he no longer finds the Texel landscape so attractive and he moves to Italy in 1975. He dies there suddenly in 1980.
The condition of this watercolor is good considering its age. If desired, the painting can be viewed before you place a bid.
