Founded in 1898 - dissolved in 1991
The Vereinigte Werkstätten für Kunst im Handwerk was founded in 1897 in Munich (and later also in Bremen) to gain more recognition for the applied arts. Designers and artists within this collective focused on designs for furniture and interior decoration, which were realized in small editions. In the beginning, the work ethic and style was close to Art Nouveau and the guild division of the Arts-and-Crafts. Nevertheless, it was not the designers but various professionals who carried out the designs. Because all objects were made by hand, production and selling costs were relatively high.
