Founded in 1957 - dissolved in 1972
In 1957 the Situationists formed an international artistic-political movement, the artists' group Internationale Situationniste. Situationists strove to bring about a state of continuous social revolution. They tried to realize this, among other things, by creating disruptive situations, happenings. The word situationism comes from the idea that each generation finds itself in a situation created by the previous generation, which it must resist in order to create a permanent revolution against authority.
