Sienjaal group

Paul van Ostaijen, a Flemish poet and writer, published his collection of poetry Het Sienjaal in 1918 as a starting point. In this collection, Van Ostaijen identified himself as the prophet of the Flemish activists and the art movement that was to result from them. The Sienjaalgroep had to become a progressive humanist Flemish art movement, with its own magazine. The group around Het Sienjaal consisted of intellectuals who worked thematically, and they considered themselves progressive. The group associated with Het Sienjaal produced a book. They also wanted to publish a magazine of the same name. However, the Sienjaal as a magazine was never published. The purpose of this magazine was to defend the constructive art. They wanted to dedicate their songs to what they considered to be the most special art movements. One of these art movements was De Stijl.
