Rotterdam Art Circle

The Rotterdamsche Kunstkring was founded after the example of the Haagsche Kunstkring and arose because of the shortage of opportunities for young artists to sell their art and maintain contact with each other. The focus within the circle was on the art and the production and reception of the work. With regard to the works of art, the emphasis was mainly on their quality, there was no need for a deeper message. The art that the Rotterdamsche Kunstkring wanted to bring was art that was not discussed elsewhere. In practice this was mainly the modern art of a new generation. In addition, hard-to-reach older art was also exhibited. The emphasis was on uniqueness.
