Founded in 1960 - dissolved in 1967
Fugare is a Dutch artist group that was founded in the Pulchri Studio in 1960. Many former members of Verve joined the group. In the end there were twelve members, ten of whom were painters and the other two were sculptors. In 1964 and 1965 two more people joined. The emphasis was on abstraction and experimentation, but painting was also done in the figurative tradition. Fugare's manifesto speaks of an abstract, abstraction or experimental style, but in practice no group style was recognizable within Fugare. Each of the members followed their own style. Fugare can be counted as part of the New Hague School. The last exhibition was held in 1967.
