Founded in 1928 - dissolved in 1930
In The Hague, some artists were not satisfied with the role Pulchri Studio played in marketing art. Young artists in particular were not accepted at Pulchri, making it more difficult for them to bring their art to the general public. This led to the easily accessible Haagse Kunstkring, although it was more limited in its possibilities. That is why the artist group De Werkers was eventually founded. It mainly brings together young artists from different disciplines in the visual arts, creating an attractive range of exhibitions and sales. The Workers are not a clear unit. They do play a role in developing art sales through high publicity, contemporary designed invitations, attractive mix of disciplines and the opportunity to become a passive member. The Werkers only existed for a short time, because the financial crisis made it difficult to buy or sell luxury items.
