#12 Painters In 1946 the group exhibited 12 Painters in the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam. This exhibition then went to Groningen and Zwolle as a demonstration of free art. The group consisted of 12 modern painters and was also called The 12. The artists all drew their inspiration from Paris, but they did not form a stylistic unity among themselves. The group had an urge to innovate, which was also evident in young Parisian artists. The group therefore formed the stepping stone for the Vrij Beelden group.
