Piet de Ridder, born in Velp (1951) and attended various courses from 1974 to 1981 at the Drawing Academy in Tilburg. Besides teaching, he also practices painting. He currently paints a lot with oil and acrylic paint. Two different materials with their own characteristic features. He does not regard painting as work, nor as a profession. It's much more to him, it's as natural as breathing. When he paints, he creates his own world, it is a matter of desire, passion and conviction, of patience, hard work and self-criticism. For him, painting is actually making music with light and color. There are many parallels between music and painting, such as rhythm, contrasts, harmony and disharmony. The unity, expressiveness, tonality, size and 'skin' of the canvas are important to him. His working method is direct, he paints shapes and structures. By following uninhibited movements of the brush and palette knife, an abstract play of lines and spots is created. Any previous ending point can be a starting point for a new beginning.
