Emmy van LEERSUM (Hilversum 1930 - Amersfoort 1984)
Van Leersum was an artist and designer of jewelry and clothing. She studied at the Institute for Applied Arts Education in Amsterdam (now: Gerrit Rietveld Academy) and at the Konstfackskolan in Stockholm. Together with her partner Gijs Bakker she designed industrial and traditional materials for the Jewelery Atelier, with which she experimented with different shapes and concepts. In her view, jewelry should not be decorative status symbols, but autonomous works of art. Her designs are often minimalistic, sometimes futuristic and use basic geometric shapes. They are an addition to the human body.
